As a general rule, it is recommended that you run your pool pump six to eight hours per day during the winter and ten to 12 hours per day during the summer season. Pool pumps need to run longer in summer because algae thrive at warm temperatures. If you have a variable-speed pump we recommend running it as much as 18 hours in the heat of the summer or up to 12-14 hours in hot climates. Filtering your swimming pool will help prevent debris and bacteria from accumulating.

Pool pumps perform best during the warmest part of the day; however, this may increase your electric bill as you will be consuming more energy. We do not recommend running your pump at night unless it’s additional to run a fountain to lower water temps.
